The Huge Bear Wines Story

The story is based on a local newspaper report from the mid 1800s (Healdsburg Historic Collection)

Huge Bear visits Knights Valley
Legend has it that in the pioneer days of Knights Valley, a huge bear would come down from the mountains in search of food, surprising the local Justice of the Peace whose home he routinely raided. That elusive bear was never trapped, but its strength and independence were captured in 1846 when the grizzly appeared on the first flag of California, known then as the Bear Republic.

The bold bear’s rugged spirit lives on in the powerful wines from Huge Bear. Discover the surprise of these beautifully intense wines made from the finest grapes from Sonoma vineyards, including mountainside grapes from Knights Valley where the story first began.
